Tiivistelmä
Landscape Revisited draws its material from the Landscape Today symposium, which took place in October 2021 at The Academy of Fine Arts / Uniarts Helsinki. The book takes the format of a reader, providing material that explores how our relation to and understanding of 'landscape' have shifted over time. What are the most urgent issues that landscape confronts now, and how do these issues connect and position themselves in relation to earlier moments in art history? Landscape as an artistic practice has consistently been used as a formula or model for various ideologies. Our understanding of landscape, and the meanings we project onto it, are in continuous flux, changing with the ideas of the moment. The 'raw material' of landscape art, the world itself (both terrestrial and atmospheric) is also in flux. How has landscape adapted beyond wonder at the 'natural world', becoming the witness for changes brought about by human actions? Landscape Revisited presents ten 'conjunctions of art and landscape' that approach these questions from across the spectrum of contemporary criticism and practice.
